Missing Adam - The Journey

2004 December 26

It's been so long since I last heard his voice; felt his warm soft hugs. It was Dec. 26, 2004. We spent the day in Louisville, Ky. at my sister's wedding. The entire family was there and it had been a great day. It was cold and there was a lot of snow on the ground. The roads were bad and the trip to Louisville was long and slow. I remember thinking how handsome Adam looked that day. He was wearing the new clothes I bought him for Christmas. He had on his black leather jacket. He was wearing the cologne I loved so much. He was with his wife and son, and all was well in my world. I had just gone through a divorce. My life was very much in transition. I was afraid of the future. But on this day, I had all my children with me. We were laughing and just enjoying each other. Adam loved children and had a natural way with them. Children tended to gravitate toward him. After the wedding there was a small reception at the church. At one point, I looked over at Adam and he was sitting at this little table with the little kids all around him. He was in his element. They were all looking up at him with big smiles on their faces. He had an audience and he was happy. Yes, on this day, he was happy. Little did I know then that this would be his last conscious day on earth.
