My car was stuck in the driveway because of the snow. I called Jim; my ex husband and Adam's dad. I told him Adam was in an accident and had been hurt. He was putting on his boots as we were talking and told me he was on his way to the accident scene. He would call me as soon as he knew something. Kari had just left for a friend's house. Michael called her on her cell phone and told her she needed to come back home. She started to pray and prayed all the way home. We all waited by the phone and prayed. It felt like an eternity waiting for Jim to call to let me know he was going to be OK. Finally, the phone rang. Jim said he was on his way to pick us up. Adam had been airlifted to University Hospital. My heart sank. There was something in Jim's voice that was unsettling. I knew he was scared but was trying to keep me calm. I knew this was going to be bad. I had no idea how bad it would be.
